How Can You Identify Depression?

Irritability

If you have noticed changes in mood that are different from before, this could be an early indicator that something is not right. Perhaps more and more of your peers and family are noticing that you become irritated over small things. Even if there is a lot of stress in your life, extreme mood changes may be a sign of something more.

Sad or Anxious Feeling

It is normal to be sad especially after serious event such as tragedies or emotional loss. However if these emotions are sustained over a long period of time or if you are noticing these feelings despite nothing out of the ordinary, this could be another sign of depression. Make a note of when these feelings began and inform your doctor about these changes.

Pessimism

Symptoms pessimism is a character trait, but if you notice feeling more negative and helpless about things, there may be something more occurring. Depression can manifest itself in negative beliefs and thoughts about yourself in the outside world. This can lead to a sense of hopelessness and possibly serious consequences if left unchecked.

Trouble Concentrating

If you find that you can’t think straight and are having trouble making decisions, this can be a sign of a mental health condition such as depression. If you’re having trouble concentrating and are unable to do your job properly, your career may be affected and this in turn may add to your stress.
